SHENZHEN, CHINA—In this industry-driven, slick, modern city, the most ambitious scientific study to date on the genetic causes of autism is underway.The Chinese call it the 10 K Project. It is unprecedented in scale and scope. In two years, when it is complete, blood samples from 10,000 autistic children from around the world, including Canada, will have been pulled apart and analyzed in the hope of creating a definitive map of the genes responsible for autism
